Re: LSI VMware driver: "MN" versus "OP" ???

So now in the current StorCLI release LSI has

Vmware

Vmware-MN

Vmware-NDS

And of course there is absolutely NO explanation ANYWHERE from LSI whether i should choose MN or NDS.

Re: Announcing the Availability of vRealize Code Stream

Is there any guidance for setting up vRealize Code Stream in a distributed vRealize Automation installation (multiple appliances behind a LB)?

Re: Can a vCenter cluster share a single datastore on a NAS?

-Richardson

Thanks for your quick reply.

I have already done this. This only allows me to create a datastore for each Host on a shared LUN.

I'm trying to have all three hosts share a single datastore, not just share the LUN.

Is what I'm trying to do even possible?

Re: Can a vCenter cluster share a single datastore on a NAS?

Since normally we have a 1:1 mapping between LUN and datastore, if all three hosts shares the same LUN then they will also share the same datastore... just map the LUN to all three hosts, using the vCenter create a datastore format it with vmfs and all three hosts will share the datastore. If after create the datastore on the first hosts, if the other hosts still don't see the datastore, just try rescan the host for new storage devices and datastores.

Re: Windows7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmx is not a valid machine configuration file

I am user, not really familiar with the system, any guideline to find vmware log file? Thanks!

Re: "VMDebugger Failed to load or caused an exception"

Wondering if anyone has a fix for this issue.

I have VS2013 with the latest VMWorkstation

Upgrade path from OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 / Vmware Fusion 5.0.5 / Windows 7 to Yosemite / Fusion 7

Hi all,

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X Mavericks 10.9.5  It has a Bootcamp partition on which I have installed Windows 7.  I occasionally boot into Windows when I need high performance, but I usually run Windows as a VM from this partition using VmWare Fusion 5.0.5

This combination has worked well for nearly 3 years now.  I am ready to move forward (or avoid being left behind) to upgrade both OS X and Fusion.  What is the best upgrade sequence?  VmWare Fusion first?  Or OS X Yosemite first?

This is my bread and butter laptop, so I can't have anything go wrong with it. :-)

Features that I use:

I generally run Fusion in full screen mode with dual monitors.  This works well.

I copy and paste text frequently between OS X and Windows.

I don't use Shared folders.

I don't use Unity mode.

Thanks in advance!

VMware Fusion has encountered an error and has shut down Windows (Windows 10 VM)

I have been having an issue with VMware Fusion crashing a single VM pretty much on a daily basis.  When then subject message is displayed, I clicked the "Report" button which placed a .zip bundle on my desktop.  As advised by dariusd in the following thread I am opening a separate thread to try and find a resolution.

Original Thread:

https://communities.vmware.com/message/2503787#2503787

I have attached the vmware.log along with a crash log that I found within the .zip file in the Library\Logs\DiagnosticReports directory.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Trend Micro Officescan 11

We might have a fix for it, I'll post again after further testing.

Re: Is there a way to make Multi-line inputs in Presentation more that 3 lines?

Oh man does it ever matter!  There is some very serious differences I've found in presentation, performance, etc depending on how you are consuming Orchestrator.  Look at Chris cdecanini_'s content and you'll find some great tips and tricks.

Re: Clone VM Script

Dear LucD

1* - when im run this command bellow im have an error when type the datastore name

New-VM -VM RJ7469SI010 -Datastore ST310_METALUN_04 -Name RJ7469SI010_new -VMHost rj7469sh023.riodejaneiro.caixa

New-VM : 05/05/2015 11:52:31New-VM    The specified parameter

'Datastore' expects a single value, but your name criteria 'ST310_METALUN_04'

corresponds to multiple values.

No linha:1 caractere:1

+ New-VM -VM RJ7469SI010 -Datastore ST310_METALUN_04 -Name RJ7469SI010_new

-VMHost ...

But the name of Datastore is really  ST310_METALUN_04

when im insert the command Get-Datastore the Datastore ST310_METALUN_04 appears many times

How im can specify the datacenter ???

2* - when im run this command whitou VcUser and VcPass im connect with sucess

Connect-VIServer
-Server$vc

im need these parameters ???

$vcUser="USER"# Username for VCENTER

$vcPass="PASSWORD"# Password for VCENTER

Thanks

Almir

Esx5.5 attach detached lun via powercli

$esxcli.storage.core.device.set seems to have changed between esx5.1 and esx5.5 - all I need is a script to attach detached devices which are coming in as snapshot luns from a netapp device - does anyone have the new esx5.5 format?

Re: iSCSI and Adding In New Storage

Hi,

If you want to configure a shared data store that both servers can see for then you are best off creating one iSCSI target on your 2012 host and assigning it one one initiator, then add both of your iSCSI disks to this one iSCSI target. It would make it easier to manage that way.

Unless you have a good reason to split things off and then mask LUNs from particular servers you want to keep things as straightforward as possible. In a simplistic scenario:

Server 2012 IP - 10.10.10.10

ESXi Host 1 IP :  10.10.10.20

ESXi Host 2 IP:  10.10.10.30

Both ESXi servers need a VMkernel with an IP address on your storage network. You then configure your iSCSI Software initator to use dynamic discovery  on each ESXi host and point at the IP address of your iSCSI (2012) server. There is plenty more to do with this, including networking considerations for uplinks, multipathing and port binding but the above is a very basic "get it working" kind of test.

I found this blog which is great at explaining the setup, but using powershell. He then talks about adding his iSCSI virtual disks into VMware in a following post. It might be worth having a look into it to see where you might need to go next with your configuration. With limited information it's a little hard to try and assist.

Re: Move from Windows vCenter to appliance

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I checked out the fling before, but it isn't supported with the SQL Express db we're running.

But based on the fact that we don't have many hosts or user roles, I don't think it will be a huge deal to build from scratch. I just wanted to make sure my plan isn't missing any steps or that there isn't anything else that stands out as a bad idea.

Thanks.

Re: host important services report

Mark,

Thanks for the response, yes I was trying to monitor up/down on the NTP daemon service.  I opened a ticket with GSS and this was the answer they gave me, which worked exactly like I wanted.

You will need to enable the "Configuration|Security|NTP Server" property in policy settings to get this in the report.

Steps to enable policy
1. Go to Administration > Policies
2. Make note of the active policy name
3. Open Policy library tab and Expand the tree
4. Select the policy which is active and click edit
5. Click on override attributes
6. Search for "configuration|security|ntp server" (you may need to collapse the right bar, the Filter search is in the top right)
7. Change the state value to local (with green check) and save.

Try generating the report after 15 minutes.

Then I needed to create an alert as well and here were the steps

There should be a few NTP Symptom definitions defined by default.  One of them is "NTP service stopped" (type: Property Symptom Definition) for Object type Host System (Property "Configuration|Security|Service:NTP Daemon|Running")

You can use this symptom definition to create an alert definition - the following documentation page is an example of how to create an alert definition:
http://pubs.vmware.com/vrealizeoperationsmanager-6/topic/com.vmware.vcom.core.doc/GUID-4C8CAF1E-2B40-4D9C-A18C-2C18CC315B1A.html
(step 4 in the alert definition process is where the symptom definition is used - in the example in the above documentation, it is step 3d & 3e)

Re: iSCSI and Adding In New Storage

My main concern would be that the vMotion works properly between the host.  I would need to use the 3 TB of space or close to it for the vmfiles so I will be straddling the 2 virtual disks. So would there be any down side to having different iSCSI connections for each virtual disk?

Re: almost double sized package..

Cievo, thank you for the reply.

what do you mean to look into the package?  how to look into?

Re: almost double sized package..

pbjork  thank you for the reply,

but  i don't think that is explained in the blog post that you've said....please read my answer above...
